The best way to explore The Great Dark Beyond is in a shining new Starship! Starships are marvels of magic and engineering, powered by sentient beings of pure energy. You’ll find Starship Pieces throughout The Great Dark Beyond that you can play as regular minions. But when they die, their stats and effects get added to your Starship. When you’re ready , hit the button to launch your Starship directly onto the board!

How do Starships work?
Some minions in The Great Dark Beyond have the keyword Starship Piece. The first time a Starship Piece minion dies, you start building a Starship with its base stats and effects. As more Starship Pieces die, they get added to your in-progress Starship, too. While you’re building, your Starship appears inactive on your board and takes up a board slot, but it can’t be attacked, damaged, targeted, or destroyed . Click on that in-progress Starship to check what Pieces have been added and to launch your Starship at any time for 5 Mana, putting it directly into play!
You can launch as many Starships as you want in a game, but you can only build one Starship at a time. Once it’s been launched, your Starship acts like a minion normally does and any Starship Pieces that die will go towards building a new one!
Which classes have Starships?
Six classes have class-specific Starship cards: Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Druid, Hunter, Rogue, and Warlock. Each of those classes has a unique name and art for their Starship . There are also some neutral Starship Pieces , so anyone can take to the stars!
How will Catch-Up Packs work with The Great Dark Beyond?
There will be new Catch-Up Packs with The Great Dark Beyond. As always, those Catch-Up Packs will catch you up to the expansion by featuring the past sets that will still be in Standard when The Great Dark Beyond launches: Festival of Legends, TITANS, Showdown in the Badlands, Whizbang’s Workshop, and Perils in Paradise. These Catch-Up Packs will include 5-50 cards per pack, with 1-10 cards per set per pack. Previous Catch-Up Pack logic will remain unchanged no matter when you open them. In-game Catch-Up Pack grants will swap over to the new Catch-Up Packs with Patch 31.0. You can tell which Catch-Up Pack you are opening by looking at the set symbols on the pack. We offer two pre-purchase bundles so that you can purchase either or both, depending on what you want. For players who plan to choose just one, the Mega Bundle (Pre-Purchase) is the best value option for the Hearthstone Mode.
When can I open my pre-purchase packs?
Pre-purchase packs will initially be able to be opened during the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl, from October 29 through November 5. Outside of that, The Great Dark Beyond packs will be able to be opened when the expansion launches on November 5.
Pre-Release Tavern Brawl?!
The Great Dark Beyond will feature our first-ever Pre-Release Tavern Brawl, running from the launch of Patch 31.0 on October 29 and the launch of the expansion on November 5. In the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl, you will be able to open your The Great Dark Beyond packs, build decks, and play with them in a mini-competition. Prizing will award cards and packs from The Great Dark Beyond, based on how you do, so you can take your winnings and go again! Keep an eye out for more details before the Tavern Brawl goes live.
